The Traveller's Tool
Welcome to the June edition of The Sci Fi Reporter.
Winter is upon us and that means it's the business end of the
convention and appearance calendar and it's great to see events taking
place right across our great nation!
Many television shows are being represented at these events and the genre
is wide and varied giving fans a fantastic choice of where to go for their
next SF holiday.
We have a bumper issue for you this month featuring interviews from two of
SFs most hated villains. Fan clubs are very active across the nation and
you can access all information on club activities via our extensive club
directory and convention calendar for the winter months.
The coming months will see many of us visiting theatres as the big guns in
the film industry present their next instalments including The Dark Knight
and The Hulk, two films with big shoes to fill indeed!
Have you see a good film lately?
We would like to
hear from you.
Have a great month ahead

Five minutes with Peter Williams!
|
|

|
|
The
Sci Fi Reporter had the chance to catch up with Stargate's Peter Williams
recently, as he was literally boarding a plane to Barbados.
Here's what he had to say..
SFR: Peter, What was the hardest part of working on Stargate?
Peter: Waiting for the scripts to come out ... never knowing if
Apophis was involved or not ...
SFR: Is it true you had to cut your hair for the part of Apophis
and that you kept the hair? if so, why did you keep the hair?
PW: Yes, I had to cut all my hair off for the pilot ... I kept the
hair ... real dreadlocks that took five years to grow to shoulder
length... and I loved 'em ... (hair doesn't rot)
SFR: What passions do you have outside of acting?
PW: I'm passionate about Jamaican and Jamaican influenced music
... football (soccer) ... (not cricket since Windies decline) ... and
current affairs ..... among other things.
SFR: What was it like working with your brother Stephen in the
movie Soul Survivor?
PW: It was a great experience .... hope to do it again one day ...
SFR: Did studying archaeology influence your performance in
Stargate?
PW: I found archaeology helped me love the Egyptology aspect of
the Stargate mythology ..
SFR: What's next for Peter Williams?
PW: I'm currently promoting my latest project "A Winter
Tale" ....... you can check it out at ...

What did I Miss at..From Jaffa to Man
An evening with Christopher Judge and Gary Graham
Melbourne - April 23 - 2008
Reported by Maryanne Scutella
The Chris Judge convention was my first experience of going to an evening
convention. The evening convention was obviously a lot more compact due
to the limited time available. It had all the basics of a convention i.e.
actors on stage, auction, autographs without the additional activities
that sometimes accompany such events.
The first actor on stage was Gary Graham. He took many questions from the
audience including the typical question about Vulcan makeup. The
interesting part is that he kept the ears from the show and sold a pair
during the auction later in the evening. He also spoke of his experiences
on the set of Enterprise and that there were a lot of pranks that were
pulled on the set. The quality of Enterprise's episodes also arose and
Gary stated that the quality of episodes had improved vastly in last few
seasons (partially because his character made more appearances).

Game on!
Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) Until 13th July 2008
The Game On exhibit basically showcased the different types of electronic
games that have existed. The best part was not only did you get to see
some of the classic games, but you got to play them as well. I know you
can get modern computer equivalents of some of these games like Pac Man
and Asteroids but it is not quite the same as playing them on the
original arcade machines. It was also good to see the amount of children
at the exhibit choosing to play the older arcade games instead of the
more modern games on offer.
Even though you could hear some of the children complaining about some of
the features of the "ancient" games they seemed to appreciate
the simplicity they embodied. Playing the games was only one part of the
exhibit, there were also explanations and facts about the different
gaming platforms and technology. It was also a good opportunity to see
how far technology has come and how games have changed by looking at the
current games on display. I would highly recommend seeing this exhibit.

This month we hear from Mary Kemp - President of the Queensland Star
Trek fan club along with some of the club's members who write...
What is good about being a part of a Fan Club? Many have probably
answered this question with varied answers. I can only give you my
conclusions and those of the club members who supplied a small part of
this answer.
For me, it is a way of getting out of the today's reality of life's up
and downs. I can recall in the past when a meeting was on, that I really
enjoyed myself sitting on the seats and listening to everyone else talk
about Science Fiction in particular Star Trek as this was it for me what
started my passion for Sci Fi. There was always someone doing something
else other than just viewing Star Trek shows, just as our club is today,
busy.
Nowadays, I am the one doing the organising and sometimes, it can be
overwhelming with the work load of things to do. You see, being a star
sign of Leo, everything has to be perfect and that it is always my goal
when I do a club meeting for our members.
I see a great improvement on many people at our club who benefit from our
efforts in giving an enjoyment of Science Fiction to our fans. Everyone
is always polite and always looking out for each other as well as showing
improvement is skills we try to teach. Our workshops help those
interested in making something out of nothing that they can say is theirs
to keep for a costume piece or even a component of a costume. We are
family and that is the way we all enjoy it. Like minded people simply
wanting to help others get the pleasure from the club and they in turn
help others with their own skills.

We're on Terok
Nor, with Marc Alaimo
|
|

|
|
The personal battle between Benjamin Sisko and Gul Dukat
proved to be the catalyst for the critically acclaimed Star Trek Deep
Space Nine. The versatility of Marc Alaimo in playing Gul Dukat was a
sheer delight to watch and appreciate.
We are pleased to present this very special interview conducted by
Maryanne Scutella.
SFR:
What is the strangest question you have been asked by a fan?
Marc: That one (laughs). No seriously, if the replicators really
work. He actually wondered if it really worked. You know you push a
button and something appears, if it really worked.
SFR: How did you answer him?
MA: I said no, they don't. It's all magic, make believe.
SFR: What is the most rewarding thing about being a part of Star
Trek?
MA: Having a steady job and having a great character to develop.
Meeting up with the people, who actually watch the show (looking at me
quite intensely when he said that last part). That never happened before.
SFR: How does it feel to see toys with your likeness?
MA: That was pretty exciting. First time I saw it that was pretty
exciting. I was blown away. Yeah, I was real excited to see my likeness
in a doll that was cool.
SFR: What were your thoughts and feelings about the cancellation of
enterprise and the future of the Star Trek franchise?
MA: Well, I was pretty surprised actually, my first thought was of
my friend Jeff Combs who played one of the characters on that show
(Shran) It is hard when your show gets cancelled. Yeah, I was surprised.
It makes you wonder where the star trek franchise is going to go from
here.
The Sci Fi Reporter wishes Marc continued success as an actor and
you can view a bio on Marc via the website link below.
