Merry Christmas
Welcome to the Festive Season issue of The Sci Fi Reporter.
Well, what a year!
As we close the pages on another year of our lives, we can look back on 2007 as a year that gave the sci fi fan some much deserved respect from the community in which we live.
Our genre is now the norm for television audiences and cinema patrons with many new series being screened on all channels and what seems to be an endless list of new SF and Fantasy films continuously hitting our shores.
How long will it last?
Lets just enjoy the ride.
2007 was a year full of Expos and Conventions like I had never seen before and 2008 is already shaping up to be a big year for the fan and The Sci Fi Reporter will be mobile in the new year as we will be attending selected events and compiling our own "Michelin Guide" of SF Event Promoters.
Thats right, just as for the best French Chefs, we will rate the promoters so you will know which events will offer you value and quality for your hard earned dollars.
We would like to wish all our readers a most memorable festive season and a fantastic new year and please take care out on the roads if you are travelling interstate or in your local area over the holiday period.
Where are you celebrating Christmas?
We would like to hear from you.
Joyeux Noel et une bonne annee de Stuart et Maryanne

"On Screen" - Whats new in TV and Movies!
|
|
Reported by Maryanne
Futurama
Years after the original series ended, Futurama is back featuring the original cast with guest appearances by Al Gore and Sarah Silverman. The new direct to DVD feature is entitled, Bender's Big Score. It is a feature length episode and was released on to DVD in the U.S. in late November but no date has yet been confirmed for it's release into the Australian market. Three more feature length episodes will follow and will be re-worked into a TV series of 16 episodes. Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long for the Australian release of the new Futurama! Until then, you can view the trailer for Bender's Big Score on YouTube
Star Trek XI
December 2008
The one we're all waiting for, the release of the new Star Trek movie. Taking a leaf out of The Star Wars Book, this movie will take us back to the lives of Kirk and Spock before The Enterprise.
There are a lot of rumours about this film floating around but none confirmed as yet.
Speed Racer
June 2008
I don't know whether this really classifies as Sci Fi or Fantasy but the speed racer cartoon is making a comeback as a movie. I used to love this cartoon when I was a kid but I'm not quite sure how it will fare as a movie.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Ball
May 2008
I personally love the original Indiana Jones films but I am unsure of a sixty four year old Harrison Ford picking up his whip once more and feel he might be too old to pull off this character. But then again, William Shatner was still doing Kirk in his later years, so who knows?
Logan's Run
Release date 2010
For fans of SF re-makes, there is going to be a re-make of the original 70's cult classic of the same name. For those of you who are not familiar with Logan's Run, it is essentially a film about a society that dies (voluntarily, supposedly) at age thirty.

On the Leviathan - With Gigi Edgley!
|
|
|
|
Actor, Singer, and a talented Writer. This former grey skinned Alien with a suductive slant to her character in the cult sci fi classic - Farscape, took time out of her hectic schedule to speak with us about recent projects.
We are pleased to present our exclusive interview with Ms Gigi Edgley.
Stuart: Gigi, Can you tell us about your recent convention appearance in New York?
Gigi: The convention in New York was out of this world. I have been creating an EP and also working on two comic books. We launched the promo for the comic book and EP in Los Angeles the week before New York. 1000 groover's welcomed our tunes...it was breath taking. My Mother and her boyfriend had flown in that day from Australia especially for the concert. It was a magical night on many levels.
I love New York ...I had a little jam session with my Brother on my birthday at the cocktail party that was held for the invited comic artists...that was particularly special...he also helped me through the weekend...he was pretty stoked when Val Kilmer sat down to sign next to us. It has been a fantastic year. Earlier in the year I worked on "The Starter Wife." It has just been picked up for a series. So get online and tell 'em how much you dig Chloe...and we'll see what happens. I also worked on a feature called "Newcastle." I am coming home for the screening which I am really excited about. At the beginning of the year I returned home to shoot a trailer for "Twisted Sister" which is a feature we hope to shoot next year. It's an amazing story...the script is phenomenal.
SB: What is it about Farscape that keeps the fans coming back for more?
GE: Farscape compares to no other production I have ever worked on. It was awesome working on a project for four and a half years. The cast and crew knew each other inside out. We all had an extremely delicious chemistry with each other. It was particularly wonderful working on a Jim Henson show. The sets, the animatronics, the computer graphics were phenomenal. It was completely groovy telling the stories on this amazing show...I think it would be impossible to watch Farscape and not fall in love with all that it is.
SB: How are you progressing with your comic book project - Blue Shift, and can you give us a synopsis of the story?
GE: In a nutshell, Blue Shift is the tale of a young woman named Pepper Jones, who is abducted and experimented upon by Aliens that enslave and sell Humans as cheap labour for other Aliens. Before they can finish modifying her for hard labour, Pepper escapes their clutches with the help of another captive, finding herself cruising through space as she makes a new life for herself among the stars and the strangeness between them.
As for the progress on the book, Blue Shift is currently on schedule for release (of a 3-issue mini series) by next summer, hopefully in time for the San Diego Comic Con. Until then, we currently have a short story available in a preview ashcan, something to whet everyones appetites for the main course. We are also working on a short promo film that ties this book into another project that we are planning to do after Blue Shift is completed.
The second adventure is called "Nobody Knows"...stay tuned
SB: Can you tell us about the documentary you have recently completed, and what is your opinion on the current state of global environmental concerns?
GE: The documentary I worked on is called "Creature Keepers." It focuses on saving endangered species and finding ways to help keep this blue green Earth, blue green. This planet needs our help now...anything we can do to help nature, it must be done immediately.
SB: How will you be spending your Christmas Gigi?
GE: I am returning home to Australia to play with my family. My Father and his fiancée just had a beautiful little girl...so I can't wait to return to OZ to chill with her and the rest of the mob...my sister has recently had a little one too...so I think this Christmas is going to be so awesome...we're going to chill at my ma's farm on the Gold Coast...I love Christmas.
SB:Do you have a Christmas message for your fans in Australia?
GE:I am forever grateful for the constant support and giggles and love that you guys bless me with...it is so wonderful to pursue my dream and be encouraged by you. I wish this Christmas and the New Year brings all the magic in the world to help your wings grow strong to fly you to your greatest dreams and beyond...
Love, peace and mung beans!
