For everyone, there is a first time
Welcome sci-fi fans to the November issue of The Sci Fi Reporter.
This is my first editorial for the newsletter so be nice!
There is a lot that has happened in the world of science fiction lately,
especially with the new Star Trek film due to air next year. The casting is
looking almost complete with Hollywood big shots such as Winona Ryder, Eric
Banner and of course Leonard Nimoy.
There are a lot of rumours floating around the internet at the moment regarding
the film so it is going to be fun to see how the film develops over the coming
months and what rumours end up being true.
Also in movie news, it has been announced there is going to be a new X-Files
movie starring the original cast that is also due to come out some time in
2008.
On the local front there are many events for Adelaide based sci-fi fans with
Christmas dinners being conducted at local clubs providing a fun opportunity to
catch up with fellow Sci-fi fans. The digitally re- mastered Star Trek TOS
episode "The Menagerie" will be shown on the big screen for one night only on
November 27 at The Palace Nova Cinema - Adelaide, as well as selected cinemas
across Australia.
In this issue we have an exciting interview with Jane Badler as well as a
sci-fi Christmas wish list to get you ready for the Christmas season. The list
features some of our favourite sci-fi goodies available at the moment for that
special sci-fi fan in your life or a well deserved present for yourself.
Well thats it from The Sci Fi Reporter, have fun reading this months issue and
look out for our Christmas special coming out soon.
How are you going to spend your Christmas?
We would like to
hear from you.
Have a great month ahead - Maryanne

Whats under Maryanne's tree?
The 19th hole
Golfsmith Ltd Edition USS Enterprise Putter
This would have to be one of the oddest Star Trek items I have ever seen.
Now personally I would rather watch grass grow than watch anything to do
with golf but I like this item for it's sheer uniqueness and novelty
value.
Perfect for the Golfer Trekkie in the family.
Limited Edition Enterprise Putter information
Signed Voice Activated Light Control
If you're into useless gadgets then this is a must on the Christmas wish
list. It is basically a voice activated light control that features the
voice of Majel Barrett Roddenberry. It is listed as having a high level
of speech recognition but even if it didn't, it is pretty spiffy looking
and would make a cool conversation piece at parties.

No Tribble at all
Talking and moving Tribbles
The Trouble with Tribbles is one of my favourite episodes of all time, so
when I saw this toy I fell in love. They are fur balls that churp like
the Tribbles in the series and move.
A simple product but very cute
Locate Tribbles here, but don't feed them!
I.D.I.C. Earrings
An item that proves there are plenty of Lady Star Trek fans out there.
Earrings with the I.D.I.C. symbol are an attractive item and I personally
like what they stand for. (Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combination).

We're invading - With Jane Badler!
|
|
|
|
There have been many great sci-fi tv shows over the years but only a
select few are appreciated to such a degree that they achieve cult
status.
We hope you enjoy our interview with Ms Jane Badler, one of the stars of
the sci fi classic - V.
Stuart: Jane, Your role on V came at a time when women were
featuring prominently in positions of power, Did you see yourself as a
role model for other aspiring female actors?
Jane: No, I did not see myself as a role model, I was young and
happy to have such a fun role. It was great to play a powerful woman and
even today I much prefer to play women in control of their destiny. It
feels a lot better.
SB: How did you find working with Richard Herd and a young Robert
Englund, and did Marc Singer take your breath away like he did for female
fans of the era?
JB: It was a great pleasure to work with Richard and Robert, who
were probably two of the nicest people on the set. Real gentlemen. I saw
Richard a couple of years ago at a convention in L.A. and he hadn't
changed a bit, still a beautiful man.
As for Mark. No doubt he had a fabulous physique and I would be lying if
I said I didn't notice, but my concerns were with this responsibility of
playing Diana and I don't think I was in the head space to have my breath
taken away by any man.
SB: Were you a singer before you were an actor? Where do you draw
your inspiration for your music?
JB: Yes, I was a singer before I was an actor although they always
seem very connected. I sang through all my growing up years and stopped
in my 20's when I was doing a lot of tv work. In the last seven years
most of my work has been singing based whether it be cabaret musical
theatre or jazz. My influences are directly related to what I am working
on at the moment. Now I am fortunate to be working with a band called
Sir. A very talented songwriter has asked me to come on board and it is a
great thrill to be singing his wonderful songs. We are working on an
album which should be out before the end of the year.
SB: If you were asked to play the role of Diana in a V remake,
would you play the role differently?
JB: If I played Diana I would probably have to play her a bit
differently as I am twenty years older and perhaps that would make her
even more interesting and dangerous, as a sexual predator she would be
interested in younger men and women, so of course that would be a
slightly different twist on it. Hope I get the opportunity to put it into
action.
SB: Thanks Jane, Do you have a message for your fans around
Australia?
JB: My message would be, don't ever do only what is expected of
you, find your own goals and passions and don't let age ever stop you
from doing what you want. Stay healthy and be good to yourself and thank
you soooo much for still caring.
